A retirement deduction reduces the income on which tax is calculated.
A medical scheme credit reduces the tax itself, after rebates. It cannot reduce tax below zero.

Displayed ranges follow SARS’s whole-rand table. The calculation applies each percentage continuously above its lower boundary, including cents.
This models a full tax year of regular taxable employment income. Monthly income is multiplied by 12 and an annual bonus is added once. Estimated monthly PAYE is annual income tax divided by 12, including any bonus and eligible medical credits averaged across the year.
Actual payroll can differ because of employment dates, variable pay, bonus timing, tax directives, payroll rounding and whether an employer recognises your deductions or credits. This is an annual liability estimate, not an exact payroll table lookup.
The after-tax figure includes taxable non-cash benefits if entered as income; it is not a cash salary or take-home estimate. UIF, medical premiums and retirement payments are not subtracted from that figure.
This is a salary-only estimate with the ordinary full-year age rebates. It excludes additional medical expense credits (including disability and age 65+ relief), retirement contribution carry-forwards, donations, travel allowances, interest exemptions, investment and business income, capital gains, foreign income and credits, retirement lump sums, severance and two-pot withdrawals.
Medical credits assume the stated beneficiaries are unchanged for the eligible months and that contributions are fully funded by you, including deemed employer payments. Split contributions or changing beneficiaries need a month-by-month calculation. Credits are non-refundable; unused medical credits cannot be carried forward.
It does not calculate a refund or balance owing because PAYE already paid is not entered. The retirement deduction is simplified to salary income; the full statutory rule also considers remuneration, taxable income and capital-gain exclusions. Any excess displayed needs confirmation on assessment.

Amounts are calculated at full precision and displayed to two decimals. Displayed rows may differ by a cent when added because of rounding. Annual tax is floored at zero after rebates and medical credits. No information is sent by this calculator, stored between visits or added to the URL.
